Course Description:
While striving to provide older adults with the best possible care, professionals must deal with the differing expectations of clients, agencies and professionals, as well as confront a variety of challenges, many of which are specific to the senior population. This course will assist professionals in identifying these challenges and provide strategies for addressing them. This course is designed for social workers, nurses and other professionals who work with the elderly.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify expectations and experiences from the perspectives of agencies, professionals and clients
2. Describe communication skills to enhance client and professional satisfaction
3. Describe self-care skills
4. Identify particular challenges in working with older adults
5. Explain these challenges from the perspectives of different professional disciplines
6. Strategize about how to handle these challenges through increased communication and self-care skills
This course is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards – ASWB NJ CE Course Approval Program Provider #13. Course 1314 from 03/13/2017 to 03/13/2019. Social workers will receive the following type and number of credit(s): General social work 3.0. Method of delivery: Face to Face. Level of Practice: Beginning to Intermediate.
Longtree and Associates, provider #1208, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association for Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education Program. Your presenter, Ulysses Akridge, CSW, CDP, CALA is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, Certified Social Worker and a Certified Assisting Living Administrator. He combines his dementia care background and long-term care social work expertise with assisted living executive management experience to advocate for and support elders with memory and other lifecare challenges.
