Six Ways to Take a Fast Break

You may not be able to take a break exactly the way that you want to, but you can take a fast one in one of these ways. Make a list of your favorites so you can remember to try them again.

Put Some Great Music On

Put together a playlist or two that really gets you moving. It helps if those songs are ones that make you want to dance and that make you happy. Turn on that music and let yourself go for a few minutes. This is a great way to get your blood flowing and to have just a few minutes on your own.

Stretch

Take a few minutes and do some stretches. This gives you a break and it encourages you to let your body tell you what it needs. Your joints and muscles need to move and if you’re stressed or you’re holding yourself in uncomfortable positions, stretching can loosen them up.

Go for a Walk

Whether you can take off for a walk around the block or you can only do a quick walk inside the house, walking can also get your blood moving. You can also let your mind wander while you’re walking, either in place or around the block. You might find it’s easier to concentrate afterward.

Have a Full Glass of Water

Dehydration is a big problem for you and for your senior. If you’re feeling like you need a break, one thing you can do quickly is to go drink a full glass of water. You might start to feel better right away, especially if it’s been a couple of hours since you had a sip or two of water.

Practice Deep Breathing

Deep breathing can solve a lot of issues for you. Close your eyes if you can and practice deepening and slowing your breathing as much as you can. You don’t need to rush this, or it will just add to your stress. Tackle this one slowly and only breathe as deeply as you’re comfortable breathing.

Get Rid of Some Brain Clutter

One big problem when you need a break is often that your brain is cluttered up with to dos and with thoughts you need to process. You can do something about that by taking out a blank piece of paper and just writing down everything that comes to mind. Don’t worry about whether it makes sense. You’re trying to clear your brain and this can help.

Now that you’ve had a fast break, you need a real one. Elder care providers can take over for you so that you can take time away when you need it. Let yourself rely on their assistance.
